Praying.. for what??

This week I was reflecting  on the necessity to pray for young  believers. I was reminded on how much it takes for a soul to be freed from the dark powers of evil and come to the light; and how precious is the salvation from God. The Bible calls this astonishing event ( being born again; John 3:3) necessary to see the kingdom of God.When we think about the birth of a baby, we know that cares don’t stop there, it is actually a life of much labour and effort to help the baby to grow, teach it how to walk and so on. We know that ultimately the baby will grow one way or the other, but what sort of baby will he be ?? A healthy, strong and bright one  or a sickly, feeble, pitiable creature ?
How many young converts are having the privilege to be cared for in this manner? How many are prayed for, talked to, encouraged by ourselves? This seems to be a forgotten reality in days where people are just thinking about the moment.
Today it is more important that a person say a couple of words, stating that they “ believe” that one day the Lord Jesus died in the cross, rather than understanding the effects of such a death, and the power to transform and renew the  life of a cursed fallen sinner.
We forget that as much as we desire that a baby becomes a good man or woman and accomplish many things, we also ought to long for the growth of those young Christians.
I know all I am saying sounds pretty obvious but it was just recently after reading Ephesians, Philippians, Colossian  and other letters written by  the Apostle Paul that I came to realise how important is that we continue to pray for what really matters:
  • that the Lord may  give unto them the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him;
  • that they might walk worthy of the Lord being fruitful in every good work ( Col 1:10)
  • that they may approve things that are excellent, being filled with the fruit of righteousness
  • that they increase in the knowledge of God receiving wisdom and understanding ( Eph 1:17)
  •  that their faith may grow (2Th 1:3)
I sometimes forget that the kingdom of God doesn’t come truly to a person when it comes by word only. It has to come in power and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance (1Th 1:5).

See when we starting thinking about it we realise that there is much work to be done, right?

May we pray that many will come to salvation, not be content with a mere profession that is hard to be believed.
May we pray that that frail and weak profession made at the cross will be confirmed and strength by acts of the working of grace in the life of those young believers.
May we also show our increasing love to our Lord and King by and increasing love for these souls.
Finally may we remember that the good work which Christ does in one’s life is only perfected in Eternity however it indeed starts here...
... He is calling us to pray...
