This is a most interesting and important chapter in the Bible. It deals with the dangers surrounding young men, and sounds a warning to all of us.
Everything GOD created in the beginning was good. GOD Himself attested this. Sadly, however, is that after the fall, most, if not all of GOD's gifts to man were perverted and used for ill causes. GOD gave men strength to rule the Earth and man uses it for wars. GOD gave man marriage and sex, and man chooses fornication and pervertion. And this applies to whatever the corrupted minds of men can think of.
In this chapter of proverbs, we have a solemn warning from GOD given to all men against fornication and prostitution. It is one of the most powerful temptations the devil can put on a young man's way. We, as servants of the LORD, are commanded to "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. ". However, when it comes to youthful lusts, we are the ones that are commanded to flee 1Co 6:18 "Flee fornication".
Also in this chapter, we have a description of how temptation behaves. When the temptation comes at first, it always seems to be good, and it is consequences are mostly hidden, as exemplified by the mouth of the adulterous woman Pro 5:3. But GOD makes it clear that those that fall in it, shall have a bitter end (Prov 5:4) . Proverbs 5: 9-11 describe the consequences of falling: Losing of honour, losing of wealth, losing of health. This is serious indeed.
In the other hand, GOD also gives us a plain description of His plan for marriage and how a man is to rejoice in his wife (Proverbs5 : 15-19). Blessed be the LORD, for He always provides a escape, when we are facing temptations, and that we will never face any temptation that we will not be able to overcome (see 1 Co 10:13).
There's not much to explain from the passage (verses 15-19), since we have plain words, given by our GOD. Everytime I read this passage it fills me with joy, as I see the goodness of GOD and how GOD's ways are much, imcomparably higher than our corrupted ways. Fornicators cannot get even closer to the hapiness that exists in marriage.
May GOD gives us all a watching and a discerning heart to flee fornication and wait paciently in the LORD, for His ways are perfect and without fault. May the LORD keep us, Christian young men, from temptation and falling in sin.
Praise the LORD.
