We, as servants of the Lord are commanded to seek wisdom and to take the law of the Lord to our hearts. The law of the LORD is to be constantly in our minds, it must even be visible to our eyes at all times "Bind them upon thy fingers", lest we forget and fall away in sin. If you ever wondered how to overcome temptation, the Bible is clear: "By taking heed thereto according to thy word"(Psalms 119:9-11), "Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee".
The consequences of ignoring GOD's warnings are underlined from verse 6 onwards. The young man, who is called a simpleton(for thus he is, since he ignores the law of GOD and does not take it to his heart), is heading towards his house, during night time. In his way lies an adulterous woman, whose husband had left and would not come back anytime soon. She, through flattery and deceit convinces this young man to commit addultery with her and he agrees "as an ox goeth to the slaughter". Verse 23, then, reminds us again about the consequences of sin(already discussed in chapter 5).
How sad is this story! And this pattern is very common in the days we live in. The media's most sold films and television programs and series portray this story to us again and again and the adulterous couple are seen as the heroes of the film. This has become the standard behaviour in our society. Marriage is despised and simplicity is praised.
And this corruption is as abundantly amongst the so called people of GOD as it is in the world. Search for the number of divorces amongst Christians in any statistic and you will see that they are at the same levels as those of the world. Truly, this is an adulterous generation. And we keep asking ourselves what has gone wrong and why we do not see salvations anymore. Woe unto us, for we seek after signs and revivals, while we are the generation that least can claim any action of the Holy Spirit of GOD. Woe unto us, for the Christianity we have today has become only another major religion in the world, like Islam, etc, drowned in supersticion and ignoring the true way of GOD. How sad is this! How sad is this!
As we can see, adultery is serious. Let us also take heed against spiritual adultery, and let us not conform to this world. GOD shall judge all our acts and this should make all of us tremble.
May GOD give us wisdom and let us propose in our hearts to take His word to our heart, not being hearers only, but doers, and walk in His ways unto the end.
GOD bless
